Kim and I drove to Southwest Harbor Deli and then back around Somes Sound to the Lower Hadlock pond parking area. Met a couple form Danvers who were in need of a ride back to Jordan Pond to pick up their car so that delayed the hike by a bit.
We left at about 11:45 am along the Carriage Trail and traveled by Marker #18 and 19 and took a hard right at # 20 towards the Little Harbor Brook Bridge.

The trail follows a stream bed for some time, dry this time of the year. |
After a stretch of bouldering we came upon the Carriage Trail crossed by the Amphitheater Bridge |
We emerged in a clearing with views of Penobscot Mountain to our east. |

We dropped into a dip where the Birch Spring is and found the intersection of trails. We turned left (west) to descend using the Sargent Mountain South Ridge Trail. |
A short up to the summit follows some crag climbing. |

This hike marks the legitimate successful completion of the goal that I made over a year ago. In reading The Cool Impossible the author Eric Orton encouraged me to build a fitness program around something I loved. That was hiking in Acadia National Park. I decided I would visit at least once a month. I actually started in August of 2013 but for some reason we missed September! When I started this goal I weighed about 270 pounds and 3 miles was a struggle. This picture shows me about a year later and weighing about 210 pounds. It is all about choosing a lifestyle and being active. Along the way I reignited my passion for running in mid February and was able to achieve 3 runs form my past-The Middlesex Loop 9.2 miles; the Highland route at UMF 8.4 miles; and Eagle Lake Run 6.1 miles. What will the next year bring?
